About the logo.
Just as tires of our
bikes are necessary to uplift and propel the body
forward; so too are what prayers do for the Body of
Christ, His Church. Through our prayers, we are
uplifted and inspired to do good for others. We
also find the strength to move forward. In our
logo, the tires depict the Miraculous Medal's front and
back images. Mary, the great intercessor, takes
our prayers to her Son. Why wouldn't Jesus listen
more to prayers from his mother?
The Miraculous Medal History.
The Miraculous Medal is a Vincentian Family devotion
and an apostolate of the Congregation of the Mission.
The Vincentian Family is the umbrella name for
Foundations started, and also those inspired by, St.
Vincent de Paul. The foundations started by the
Saint himself are (in chronological order): the Ladies
of Charity, Congregation of the Mission, and Daughters
of Charity. Later came the inspired by
organizations such as Sisters of Charity, St. Vincent de
Paul Society, and Vincentian Marian Youth.
St. Catherine Laboure, a novice of the Daughters of
Charity at the time of the 1830 apparitions, was asked
by Mary herself to have the medals made. The
design of the Miraculous Medal and the prayer inscribed
upon it originated in heaven with our Blessed Mother
herself.
The many favors which God has granted through the
intercession of Mary, by means of her medal, should not
be made the occasion of regarding it in a superstitious
way as though it possessed of itself the power to
procure good things for us or to avert evil. It is
not a "good luck" charm or an amulet. It is simply
a sacramental approved by the Church. It can be
called a prayer in metal form and its purpose is exactly
the same as the prayers we say in invoking the aid of
the Mother of God. Mary herself designed this
miraculous badge of her faithful clients and sanctioned
its devout use. The Church blesses it with solemn
prayer and imposes it upon the shoulders of the wearer
who according to Mary's promise will thereby receive
"great graces".
